I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some pretty great places up to this point in life, yet I know I’ve only just begun. There’s far too much to see… and yet there will never be enough time to see it all… But that’s OK, it means there’s enough out there for everyone to end up with a unique life experience. It’s great to have some unique travel stories to share and cultural experiences to remember.

You might think that being being able to travel or find some distant adventure means you have some level of profound wealth, or that you have no real responsibilities or too much time on your hands. Well, that’s actually not the case. There’s a way to travel and find adventure on all kinds of budgets. I’m typically a pretty busy guy myself. Career man… full-time single parent, and some added hobbies and responsibilities, yet I still make time for a bit of travel… I also don’t have a money tree. I don’t think it’s about that. But I’ve learned how to find travel deals and how to make good use of the tools that are available for travelers in order to find the most bang for the buck, and that’s the key. Making the most out of what you have available in order to gain a unique experience. Sometimes I splurge. Sometimes I save. But I always find a way to escape (in one way or another) when I need to.

img_20161119_150656If you’re anything like me, then you’ve realized at some point that there’s this huge world out there with all kinds of amazing things and people and places… and it would just be crazy to sit at home your entire life and never really get to see any of it.

But it’s not only about seeing a cool place or having a little fun, it’s not only about the escape. What it’s about really is discovering yourself. It’s about facing your fears and challenging the ideas you’ve formed about the world almost exclusively through third-party sources such as television, media, magazines, and photographs. It’s about finding new inspiration and perspective for life. Travelling the world is one of the most effective ways to open up and develop your viewpoint about the world around you.

The truth about the world is almost always different to our home grown perception. That’s especially true when it comes to people and cultures. We develop these ideas and perceptions based off of what we’re told and what we hear in the news, and we get stuck inside of a “this is just my life, this is how it is” kinda box, with no real desire to break free from and really experience things outside of it for ourselves.

But if you think of all the things you’ve never really thought about doing, and all the places you’ve never really considered going (or maybe even had a reason to not go), then those are most likely… well… the places you should go, and the things you should do (within reason).

It’s about freeing yourself from the confines of our cultural boundaries, borders, and ideas.

Would you really get kidnapped in Mexico City? Is Asia really that far away? Do you really wanna go through life with only one language, why not learn a new one (or three)?

Think about being cut off from the rest of the world’s dialogue… always having to wonder how the rest of the world thinks… or being spoon-fed opinions and ideas about the world and never really knowing how much truth is given about a neighboring culture.

14199490_10209222502134901_1952396656953587889_nThe truth is… At the end of the day another place is another place and another people is just another people. We are all people and we are all basically the same, just with different cultural experiences and surroundings. We feel the same, we breathe the same, and we need the same things. For the most part we think the same… and we definitely love the same. But all those things come wrapped up in very different packages… different worlds if you will.

Imagine what you might learn about yourself if you challenge your own ideas about how you view the world. Imagine how you could grow, and how valuable that would be. You discover the world, but most of all, you rediscover yourself.
